Eduardo Contreiras joined RAI on August 1st, 2021, to serve as its new CEO. Eduardo is a global business executive with a track record of over 26 years driving growth and leading high performing teams. He has experience across large global organizations to private firms and startups.
Eduardo began his executive career in 1995, in Porto Alegre Brazil, at Ipiranga. Starting as an apprentice, Contreiras quickly rose through the ranks to become the company’s Export Manager, overseeing $500+ million in sales of Polyethylene and Polypropylene. In 2001 Eduardo moved to the United States to launch Chemplastic.com, a platform to trade chemicals and plastics online. In 2002, as Braskem consolidated the petrochemical industry in Brazil and looked to expand, Eduardo was invited to take part in the formation of Braskem America and lead its commercial efforts in North America.
From 2007 to 2010 Contreiras briefly left the world of polymers to join Tribute Energy, a global chemical trader based in Houston, Texas, as its General Manager. In that role, Eduardo successfully started the company’s biofuels business. From 2010 to 2015 Contreiras ventured as an entrepreneur, starting US Business Partners, Flexpallet and later USB Polymers, where he returned to the world of polyolefins. At USB, Eduardo partnered with Osterman & Co, one of the largest polymer distributors in the Americas. In 2015 Osterman invited Eduardo to become its Vice President of International and lead its company's global growth expansion.
Eduardo has an MBA from Columbia Business School, NY and holds both Brazilian and American citizenships.
